Sports movies are a highly underrated genre of movie that more and more people should pay respect to. Oftentimes, sports movies are based on true stories, which means they are inspiring and heartwarming to watch.   1. Glory Road

This movie is based loosely on events that lead up to the 1966 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. Here, Texas Western college defeated Kentucky for the championship. The point of the movie, however, is that Texas Western coach Don Haskins made a point by starting all black players, which was the first time this had ever been done. 

  1. Friday Night Lights

This movie is based on a book called Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream and circles around a high school football team in Texas who try to cope with the pressures of being both football players and high schoolers as well as touching on issues about socioeconomic disparity and race.

  1. Coach Carter

After watching this film, viewers will be inspired to be the best they can be despite life’s hardships. The movie is based on a high school basketball team who refuses to let his all-star team play as a result of their poor grades. 

  1. The Blind Side

This movie is based on the life of Michael Oher, who played as an offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens. Before his success, however, Michael gets adopted into a wealthy family who takes in the troubled youth and helps mold him to be the best he can be thanks to their guidance and encouragement. 

  1. Invincible 

This is a feel-good movie about an underdog who ultimately gets his day. It is somewhat based on the life of Vince Papale, who was able to make the Philadelphia Eagles’ football team thanks to the help of his friends. Papale is eventually able to score a touchdown and leads coach Dick Vermeil to his first victory with the Eagles.
